- Annual with milky sap.
- Heads ligulate (no disk flowers): like a dandelion.
Discoid: Head composed entirely of tubular, bisexual disk flowers.
Disciform: Pistillate or sterile fls and staminate or bisexual fls. in same heads; or
pistillate and staminate fls in different heads (monoecious & dioecious species).
Radiate: Heads with ligulate ray fls and tubular disk fls.
- Receptacle without chaffy bracts (scales) among the flowers.
- Pappus present.
- Herb with yellow flowers.
- Outer achenes enfolded by phyllaries.
