Plants of Iron Mountain

Originally Compiled by Fred Sproul March 1996**

Iron Mountain is a prominent mountain in the southern Peninsular Ranges east of Poway, California
(San Diego County). The summit is 2696 feet (822 m).  The mountain supports a rich chaparral flora,
including a number of endemics.  Boulder-strewn slopes are composed of granodiorite containing
reddish deposits of iron.  Endemic plants on Iron Mt. grow on gabbro soils elsewhere in the county.
