Sea palm (Postelsia palmaeformis).

The brown intertidal alga called rockweed (Fucus). The swollen fertile tips are called receptacles. They contain numerous crypt-like structures called conceptacles, each with a small pore or opening (appearing like minute bumps in the image). Haploid gametes (egg and sperm) are produced inside the conceptacles, depending on the sex of the alga. This species is dioecious and diploid, with a diplontic life cycle pattern similar to animals and humans! One of the most common and widespread Pacific northwest species is Fucus gardneri.
