Three Rivers: Blue oak (Quercus douglasii) woodland.

Kaweah River: Three Rivers, California.

Kaweah River: Three Rivers, California.

Three rocks composed of calcite, a common form of calcium carbonate similar to aragonite. The center rock is marble, the source of stalactites in Crystal Cave and Boyden Cave, Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks. Stalactites are forming as dissolved calcium carbonate drips from the ceilings of caves and slowly precipitates.
