The primary purpose of this page is to show the quality of scanned 35 mm Kodachrome color transparencies compared with modern digital cameras. Even more remarkable, I took some of these pictures over 40 years ago when I first moved to San Diego County to start my career at Palomar College. Some of these coastal wildflower populations have been destroyed by urban sprawl, particularly the species near Palomar College in San Marcos. I scanned them with an old Epson 4870 Scanner at 300 dpi and more than 11 million pixels. These 33 megabyte images compare with high end digital cameras. But remember, a professional drum scanner could produce images with much higher resolutions and twice the number of megabytes. |
