There was a fair amount of snow between Mammoth and June Lake. A number of families were stopped in turnouts along the highway to play in the snow. The elevation in this area was approximately 8,000 ft, cold enough for some lodgepole pines (Pinus contorta ssp. murrayana) and one western white pine (P. monticola). Most of the pines were Jeffrey pines (Pinus jeffreyi). The following wildflower was partially buried in the snow. It belongs to the genus Calyptridium (pussy paws).
