Sarah And A Wild Red-Wing Blackbird

A wild, red-wing blackbird on sarah's hand at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. A number of wild birds have taken up residency at the San Diego Wild Animal Park and have become accustomed to people.

Sarah And A Duckweed Pond

Sarah on a rock within a green duckweed pond at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. The shallow pond contains literally millions of minute duckweed plants (Lemna gibba). Behind her are dense thickets of bulrushes (Scirpus californicus).

Magnified view of Lemna gibba, a minute duckweed that multiplies by the millions in pond and streams. The pond shown in above photo with Sarah is covered with millions of these tiny duckweed plants. A single plant will easily fit on the head of an ordinary straight pin. This photo was taken through a dissecting microscope.
