Ornamentation On Siliceous Shell Of A Diatom (1000x Magnification)

Ornamentation on the siliceous shell (valve) of a diatom. The individual hexagons are 5 micrometers (0.005 mm) across, roughly the length of the head of an ordinary human sperm. Image taken with Nikon adapter through an Olympus compound microscope at 1,000x magnification.
