Kings Canyon National Park

View From Road To Kings Canyon National Park. Many decades ago I actually hiked to the summit of 11,000 ft. Alta Peak, one of the snow covered peaks in distance. It was a strenous 20 mile round trip hike. See the following 2 images from that trip of July 1963 when I was young.

Foxtail pines on 11,000 ft. slope near Alta Peak, Sequoia National Park

Foxtail pines (Pinus balfouriana ssp. austrina) on 11,000 foot slope near Alta Peak, Sequoia National Park. This is a high elevation pine endemic to the subalpine Sierra Nevada. It is closely related to the bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) of the subalpine White Mountains.


General Grant Grove Of Giant Sequoias

General Grant giant sequia, 2nd largest living tree in this ancient genus of cone-bearing trees.

The pinkish-purple flowers in meadow are Jeffrey shooting stars (Dodecatheon jeffreyi). Primulaceae
